The Need

In rural Cambodia, the nearest doctor can be a day’s journey away. For millions, distance is the difference between recovery and loss.

Cambodia is a nation of over 17 million people, which is rapidly developing. Currently, it is the 140th wealthiest country and is classified as a lower-middle income country by the World Bank

Over the last 1.5 years, fighting has occurred between Thailand and Cambodia twice.

Heavy airstrikes and artillery fire have left casualties and damage, particularly in the border regions.

Our work currently focuses on the border town of Khemarak Phoumin (Khmer: ក្រុងខេមរភូមិន្ទ). This town is the provincial capital of the large rural province of Koh Kong, with over 140,000 rural residents spread over 200km of rural areas, accessible only by boat in many areas. Despite significant efforts by the government and their ministry of health, poverty and lack of medical care availability is present throughout the region due to a shortage of resources.
